Makeup tips for your Indian wedding day

One of our FAVORITE make-up artists Sonia C is here today sharing advice on how to be the best kind of Indian bride and beauty products with you.  Wait! You haven’t heard of Sonia C?  Well, we’re more than happy to share some of her drool worthy credentials with you.  She styled her first bride at the age of 12!  She  went to school for fine art and minored costume construction and sculpture.  She is professionally trained and works for Louis Vuitton.Moet.Hennessy.  and is a national beauty advisory for the company.  Our list could go on and on, but we think you get the picture… She is quite talented at what she does!  So we’ll stop writing and let you read Sonia’s Blog:

If you’re planning your wedding and haven’t found a hair or makeup artist yet…it’s probably stressing you out. After all, you are the “centerpiece,” of the entire wedding and you might be feeling pressured about how you want or need to look. Stress no more gorgeous because the best kind of bride is the one who stays true to herself! And I’ve got a few tips to make sure you sparkle the way you should:

1. DON’T schedule a trial consultation without having at least one of your outfits… Especially if you don’t wear a lot of makeup or style your hair often. You will more than likely get overwhelmed by the amount of preparation and products needed to make you look like you popped out of a bridal magazine. Even the biggest fashionistas can’t truly envision exactly how they will look on their wedding without their outfits.

2. DON’T wear fire engine red lips if it’s not your style. Historically, red stains and dyes were easy to make from various fruits/veggies/etc., found in nature. It was easy and available so, brides wore it on their lips, eyes and cheeks because that’s all they had. Don’t feel pressured to adorn your twenty-first century lips with red or anything super deep for that matter. There are plenty of other colors readily available even if your mom tells you otherwise! And if you need to wear red, find the right shade for you by trying different textures, brands and tones. Cooler skin tones look great in blue based reds because it compliments the skin rather than looking out of place or too over the top. Afraid of solid red? Try a sheer toned gloss.

Sonia C’s must-have lip colors:

Nars- Mascate matte lipstick, Buxom- Barcelona and Fresno lip plumpers, Yves Saint Laurent- the Rouge Volupte line and 24k glosses.

3. DON’T wear foundation that is lighter or darker than your actual skin. No matter how light or dark you think you are, your makeup artist
knows your skin tone a LOT better… They work with color on a daily basis, and understand it! Trust that you’re going to look stunning in
your photos and in person if you balance out your own coloring. Certain products might have ingredients that make your skin look
lighter on camera…titanium dioxide (which is SPF) is found in a lot of foundations and gives off a grey cast in photos on deeper and
warmer skin tones. To avoid this, ask your artist to use something without light reflectors/and SPF if possible.

Givenchy- Photo’Perfexion Light (for skin like coverage), Mac- Studio Fix and Studio Sculpt (for medium, flawless coverage), Cover FX- Cream Foundation in Compact (for maximum sculpted coverage).

4. DON’T over accessorize your hair. I admit some hair clips are just too beautiful and sparkly to let go of, but not every hair accessory
and trend should end up on your head for your wedding. My rule is subtlety for hair clips/pins/flowers. Whatever you choose, make sure
it goes with your style of dress and reflects your personality… whether it’s a vintage heirloom to go with your grandmother’s kundan
necklace or an ostrich feather to make a grand and luxurious statement… pick it because it’s YOU or don’t pick anything at all.

Can’t find anything you absolutely love? Make it! It’s so easy to make a headband or a hair clip that is everything you ever wanted. Head
down to a craft store or a specialty trims and appliqué store and they will have everything you need to do it yourself. You’ll be making a
personal memory and maybe even something you can pass down one day!
