Not only are you planning a wedding, but now you have to design and create an entire wedding website! DO not panic, we have a step by step process to guide you through the process.
Creating the perfect website is a rather simple formula, since it’s created for your guests. The information that they are going to need and will be looking for:
- How many Indian wedding events are there?
- What time do they start/end?
- Directions and locations of the wedding events
- A rough idea of what to wear
- If there will be a cash bar, open bar or no bar at all. (optional)
Follow our details below to ensure the above information is shared in a clear, easy-to-identify place so that you and your families don’t have texts & phone calls from guests with boundary issues (I’m sure 2 names just popped into your head) leading up to and on the wedding day. Creating your website is one of the first items you should work on so that you can later share the URL on your Save the Dates and your Wedding Invitations.
- Take your Engagement photos: Using high resolution photos will make a huge impact on your website and what a better way to share all the amazing images taken by your photographer.
- Choose a Website Template: There are many options out there for a wedding website template, from free options to paid. You can go to The Knot, Minted, Riley & Grey, Wedsite, AppyCouple to find ones that you both would like. First go through them to fine one that best represents your wedding. The website should mimic the look and feel of your wedding and even better would be your invitation. “If it’s a Bollywood wedding or a sophisticated black-tie event, the website should make it clear by its very nature,” says celebrity wedding and event specialist Donnie Brown.
- Design your Site: Now that you have found a wedding website template that echos the theme of your wedding, the first items to map out are what pages your Indian wedding website will have:
- About us: For many of your guests, they might have only met your soon to be spouse once or not even at all. Share details about how you met, and what makes you tick. This is where you can add those lovely engagement photos you’ve taken.
- Wedding Events: For many of us, there are multiple events and with that comes multiple guest lists, don’t include exclusive events on your wedding website. In other words, leave out any events on your weekend schedule that not all your guests are invited to. Don’t forget to write out a timeline. For the Wedding Day, include the ceremony, cocktail and reception times and locations, maps to the location(s), and/or information about transportation to and from the wedding.
- Dress Codes: If you think there will be any confusion about attire, this is the place to tactfully offer suggestions. Offer guests suggestions on appropriate attire versus dictating what they should wear. If it is an outdoor ceremony, let your guests know on the website so they can choose their attire accordingly and plan for wedges instead of stilettos, add on sunscreen and sunglasses instead of a shawl for example. can list the dress code (like “black tie optional” or “semi-formal”) on your website. And include any useful tips for dressing for the weather or venue. For example: “San Francisco is chilly this time of year, so pack a pashmina!” or “The ceremony is in a garden, so consider wearing wedges instead of heels!”
- How to get here: The second thing guest will want to know after the date, is your wedding’s location. Next you should include hotel information on your wedding website with a direct link or phone number to book a room, along with any other special instructions, such as a name to mention, a code to use, or a deadline to book by. Guests coming from out of town will be worried about things such as the closest airport, how to get to the venue from the airport, train station, parking and how long it will take them to drive from the hotel to the events. To facilitate a stress free weekend for your wedding guests: make sure the details are there and easy for non-locals to understand.
- Where to stay and what else to do in town. Guests always appreciate a list of the best restaurants, shopping, parks, and other things to do during their trip. You can add your own personal touch by sharing places you have gone on your first date, your favorite bar, the best tacos in town etc. If you have a significant number of guests with children, some nearby playgrounds or children’s activities are really helpful.
Whether your partner is not desi or you will have many non-desi guests. They will all have questions and putting information on your website is the best way to share all your knowledge.
Wedding Events: Give a brief description of each event, it’s meaning and at the bottom the dress code.
Dress Codes: Dedicate a page on your website to Dress Codes. Many of your friends will want to lean in and wear South Asian clothing. You can add this link to our Glossary of South Asian clothing with detailed photos to help them decide what they would feel most comfortable in. Your guests may want to purchase, rent and/or borrow clothes. Share information on where they can purchase items, sizing information and any specifics to your family customs (stay away from red or all black when selecting clothing for the wedding ceremony).
Feel free to copy/paste below right to your site.
