Once you’ve chosen your Indian wedding date and venue (that’s when the fun begins) the next step is to figure out who is on the guest list. Summer brides, I’m looking at you, the time for you Indian wedding invitations for your Summer wedding has arrived. The sage old advice “you never get to make a first impression twice” applies here, THIS is your guests FIRST glance at your Big Fat Indian Wedding, make it count.

Consider how you want your wedding day to look and feel. Is it casual or more formal? Fonts and wording count here. Are you having an interfaith wedding ceremony? Think full names for more formal wedding invitations. Something I love to add to any invitation suite is a liner but believe it is a must for a more formal wedding.

If your Indian Wedding is happening in the summer opposed to a Fall or Winter your wedding colors are going to speak to this. Brights, pastels and pops of color are going to be extra fun and a nice surprise! There is always a classy way to implement color even if your wedding is a little more on the black tie side. Using colorful pops as accents is a nice compliment to soft pastels, and metallics.

After you square away all the fun stuff, design, color and wording, the next step is timeline. You want to give the people you care about time to plan for your wedding weekend. Wedding invitations should arrive 6 – 8 weeks before the wedding. Some things to consider so you can stick to this timeline is how long will it take for you to order and receive your invitation? Especially if a designer is creating something custom for you. Leave a cushion of time to make edits!

Another factor in sticking to timeline is addressing your envelopes, are you printing labels or using a calligrapher? Most calligraphers have a minimum of a 2 week turnaround so be sure to get them those addresses with enough time to get back to you and out. Lastly, and this is something that people often don’t think of is the weight of your invitation and postage. The average invitation is going to need more than the basic 49 cent stamp. Considering this when ordering your postage and don’t forget to order an extra for all the RSVP cards. Being a very detailed oriented person I love to choose a stamp that complements the suite, this isn’t always easy at the USPS but Zazzle has some great ones and even allows you to make custom stamps!
