Good Morning Brides! Today we’re going to share some time saving tips while you’re wedding shopping for your Indian wedding dress. Doing some research and making a few decisions before you shop can shave hours and frustration from your dress shopping experience.  We’ve compiled the major points on your wedding look.

Determine your bridal style. Is it going to be a saree? A lehenga? A salwar kameez?  With so many options, not knowing before you shop can be overwhelming!  Do you want be a traditional bride and wear the style that is the cultural norm for you? Or do you want to try something a little different?

Have a mini fashion show in your own closet before you go. This can help you know what silhouettes work on your body. Another point to keep in mind- how will you break up your different looks at all your events? Did you want a unifying theme? Similar color palette? Similar designs? Also consider what fabrics are you most comfortable in. What colors do you want at your events? Do you want your outfit to match or contrast the color theme?

What is the theme of your wedding? What is the location? You should try to tie them together seamlessly. A formal heavy gown with velvet trim will look odd on a beach for a summer wedding.   A lighter, softer look makes more sense on a beach. If you’re having your wedding in the winter, think velvet borders and sleeves, even a custom made matching shawl. If your ceremony is outdoors in the summer- think chiffon, organza, and silk tulle billowing in the wind.

If you have pictures of styles, colors and designs- bring them. It can help you save time when the boutiques just want to show you item after item.
Will you need to cover your head during the ceremony? Put the dupatta on your head get a feel for the weight of the fabric. If you think it is a little heavy in the store think about how it will feel after 4- 6 hours. How are you planning on wearing your hair?  You don’t need your potential wedding day hairstyle finalized, but wearing your hair in a similar style will help you decide.

Who/What to bring:
At least 2 people who you trust to tell you when things work on your body and who aren’t afraid to use the dreaded F word (FAT).

Bring your camera (note: not many places will allow you to take pictures, but bring one just in case and politely ask). Once you find your wedding outfit, snap lots of pictures so that you can take it with you to pick out your jewelry, bridesmaids clothing etc.

You should bring need bobby pins and hair ties- especially if you are going to be covering your head.

Wear comfy clothes that you can easily slip in and out of. Wear a good bra and seamless underwear. While many places now offer having cups put into blouses, that is a choice that is up to you. If you are not going to go that route, bring a strapless bra as well for lower cut blouses.

You should bring heels the same height you plan to wear for the wedding. You already know whether you’re a platform 5 inch heel female or a short kitten heel lady. The boutiques will have shoes, but not various heights for you to try on.

This is one of the most important decisions a bride can make for her wedding, so take your time to plan ahead, but don’t rush the actual shopping process. And most importantly, have fun!
