Bliss Spa Bridal Beauty Timeline
The lead esthetician, Emily Payne, at Bliss Spa Boston is sharing her expertise with our readers today. Emily has put together a timeline as well as services that would be beneficial to South Asian brides. To get that fabulous glow and gorgeous skin, your beauty regimen needs to start not the month of, but 6-8 months before the wedding day.
The first facial should begin 6-8 months before the wedding. Depending on individual concerns, we generally schedule facials every 4-6 weeks. I also recommend scheduling your services with the same esthetician. You will form a relationship and the esthetician will get to know your skin and make proper adjustments as needed. You also want to give yourself enough time to adjust to new products and give them a chance to do their job.
The two Bliss facials I recommend for South Asian skin are the triple oxygen facial with microdermabrasion added and the ‘bright’ stuff. For the triple oxygen treatment, the combination of the facial and microdermabrasion is priceless! Microdermabrasion is way to exfoliate the skin, but it is a physical exfoliation
and not a chemical one. It is also effective for dissolving dark spots, smoothing fine lines and acnaeic scarring. Microdermabrasion is performed by gliding a pen-shaped wand on your skin, it can feel a little scratchy. Once one pass over the area is performed, a few more passes are involved. Each pass is breaking down another dead layer of skin to reveal the brand new skin. Some people feel a “windburned” effect on their skin afterwards. The oxygen spray at the end will do wonders for your skin.
The ‘bright’ stuff is specifically for hyperpigmented skin. After one treatment you will see instant results, but a series of six every 10 days is recommended to get the brightest bright. The ‘Bright’ Stuff treatment includes SkinCeuticals’ Pigment Balancing Masque. This is a gentle to medium depth peel recommended for skin with signs of aging, sun-damage or hyperpigmentation. It contains 40% glycolic acid and 10% citric acid, vitamin C and Emblica. The acids are a chemical exfoliant to help to break down the dead layer of skin while the vitamin C and Emblica are known for lightening and brightening skin. The treatment will give your skin a brighter appearance, but it will not eliminate or erase sun damage and dark spots. To get those results, you have to go to a dermatologist who can provide medical grade treatments.
Around the time you start your facials is also a good time to start growing in your eyebrows. Just throw away the tweezers. let a professional handle the brows.
Schedule your bikini wax at least 3 months before the wedding. The length of hair should be about a quarter of an inch long. You can schedule your waxing every 4-6 weeks, at the same time you get your next facial!
I recommend peels in between facials, and you can achieve great results at home with that’s incredi-‘peel’! spa-strength glycolic resurfacing pads. But, your esthetician will also recommend take home products to keep the results glowing for weeks to come.
