Choosing the perfect wedding heels
Wedding season is coming up soon and while most of the major items are checked off your list, there are still some small details that are left. If finding your wedding shoes is still on your list, let us help you with a few insights from newlyweds before you shop. If you are a Hindu bride, you will wear your perfect wedding shoes walking up the aisle but will have to take them off before you enter the Mandap. That being said, we have too often seen brides walk up the aisle and then stop and awkwardly look for someone to hold on to so she can take her shoes off or have a bridesmaid come to the rescue and take their shoes off for them.
Save
yourself the awkward pause and choose wedding shoes without ankle straps or zippers. Buy shoes you can slip right out of. If you really have your heart set on a strappy pair of heels, other options and notes that we have gathered from brides is that they had pretty shoes for pictures, but walked down the aisle barefoot, and others wore gold flats as they walked in.
For the reception, shoes that are comfortable and support you are important because you are going to be on your feet most of the night. While you are going to choose shoes that work with your wedding clothes, you can have fun with it and find a great pair that compliments your outfit, if you have a gold reception outfit, try bright fuchsia shoes for a pop of color.
You definitely want to break in your shoes before the big day. Practice wearing your shoes and walking in your shoes often. The last thing you’ll want and the end of the night is aching, blistery feet. If you are not used to platform heels, then consider shoes that you are used to walking in. There are tons of gel cushions and padding that can make you heels a little more comfortable too.
Another important test for your wedding shoes is to try on your wedding outfit and reception outfits with the shoes. Make sure you are happy with the length of your outfits with your heels. Also, if you choose sky high heels, practice walking a lot to make sure your heels don’t catch in the lining and rip the bottom of your wedding outfit.
Of course your wedding shoes should be unique and special for your big day, but it can get costly if you have you heart set on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks. Sites like DSW, Endless, Piperlime, Zappos and 6pm have great brands at discount prices. Also, think about the style of the shoe and possibly being able to wear them again if you want to stretch your dollar.
