Manish Malhotra opened India Couture Week 2016 in Delhi with an elaborate set with a mirror-finished runway, then the towering potted plants that transported you to the Middle-East. He created an ambiance befitting a Persian Palace within the soft glow of yellow lanterns walked over 80 models in his couture pieces.
Manish Malhotra’s latest collection ‘The Persian Story’ was inspired by the architecture of the fabled land of Persia. “I have always been drawn to Iranian culture and music so I decided to add a touch of the lost world to this season’s collection,” shared the designer. The drop shoulder blouse has become something of a Manish Malhotra staple on the runway. The lehengas were majestic & opulent and we can guess by the looks—heavy to say the least. There was a touch of the modern bride as the collection did not have dupattas for the heavier bridal lehengas instead an off the shoulder blouse.
Hazoorilal Jewellers by Sandeep Narang partnered with the designer on the jewellery which added to the opulence of the evening. But the final flourish on the show was a line-up by Fawad Khan who played the opening act, and Deepika Padukone in the standout piece of his Persian inspired collection.
