From a traditional Hindu wedding to a modern Muslim outdoor wedding, Humaira and Vikas led their guests through fresh bursts of color at each event. These colorful Hindu and Muslim wedding ceremonies were captured by Continuum Photography. The Hyatt Regency located in the heart of downtown Boston offers an outdoor space for an Indian wedding ceremony in addition to another space adjacent to the ballroom for an outdoor cocktail hour. A fresh and modern take on South Asian weddings is all due to the vision of our bride Humaira and her amazing florist, Gregory, from Flou(-e)r. They created a visually stunning ceremony with the combination of colors as well as fabrics for the beautiful summer day. Gregory shared his thoughts on creating the gorgeous backdrop for the Muslim wedding ceremony: Even though Humaira and Vikas’ South Asian wedding was a multi day event we focused their Sunday ceremony bringing a lush green garden into the city by creating a 8’ by 8’ moss wall with a multitude of greens and phalaenopsis orchid’s cascading down from the wall as the backdrop to their ceremony. We wanted to incorporate the colors of purple, green, & gray that would be the vision for reception into the ceremony by creating an overhead sheer canopy of these colors that were above the guest during the ceremony but as the reception was a floor above the ceremony space the guests were able to enjoy the canopy from above the patio during the cocktail hour and throughout the evening!!!

Where did you get your wedding inspiration: For Vikas, it was all about the fun aspects of the wedding and making it a big party. Therefore, he took charge and had strong opinions on food, drink and music. And it paid off – we received many compliments from our guests about the delicious meal, and the dance floor was packed all night! My priority was to make the weekend feel personal, and that included spending 1on1 time with our guests as well as details that reflected ourselves and our personalities. We did that by hosting a welcome party with the same theme as the party where Vikas and I originally fell for each other, choosing a Philly-inspired cake topper (where we met), and surprising our guests with San Francisco-based Its its ice cream sandwiches during dessert (my favorite childhood treat)!
Advice for future brides: For any family members’ whose opinions matter, get their input up front as to what aspects of the wedding are important to them. That way you’re not guessing or potentially offending them later.
Vendor that blew your mind: The staff at our wedding venue (Hyatt Regency Boston), especially Jenn Kobasa, was absolutely phenomenal. They worked with us over an 11-month period to plan our wedding, and were extremely flexible, accommodating and fun to work with. We had a total of four events at the Hyatt over a span of two days, and each event was different and had its own set of details that they executed on flawlessly. We could not have asked for a better experience!
