Wedding Decor in Massachusetts
My mom and I went to Alankar together to meet with Shoba Shastry. We started by chatting about the overall concept, themes and venues for my Indian wedding. She asked if I had chosen wedding colors or a particular mandap in mind. Once she was was able to get a picture of what we were looking for, she started showing us pictures of Indian weddings on a flat-screen which was connected to her laptop. Shoba has been around for so many years and because of this she has built an unrivaled inventory of wedding décor items. She has done it all and because of this she can show you and create anything and everything. That being said, as a bride, the process would be easier if you have a solid starting place before you go to meet with her or any decorator. What defines a solid starting place for you wedding décor?

Do you want a traditional structured columns, a contemporary fabric mandap, a floral wedding mandap, a zen bamboo mandap, or a glamorous crystal mandap. Here is our board on wedding mandaps. Alankar will have their own board showcasing their mandaps coming soon.
2. Wedding colors: What are your wedding colors for each of your events. In 2012, the popular color choices were rust, hot pink and purple. If you are not sure what your colors should be, start with your outfits and then choose a complimentary or contrasting color. You never want to match your décor otherwise you will blend in.
3. Décor Budget: You should have an idea of how much you have to spend on your décor. Mandaps alone can range from $2,000. – $15,000 without including anything else but the structure.
