Kaarvan

Kaarvan is based on the belief that women in low-income communities have a right to work – and to work in a fair and just manner. Today Kaarvan stands as a separate not-for-profit organization working with over 1200 women in low income communities. The program combines development theories with business practices to address the problem of unemployment within the socio-economic realities of the workers. The program aims to connect the women to the markets through efficient and quality-based systems while maintaining a strong focus upon sustainability. The products produced by women workers are marketed locally and globally under the brand name of Kaarvan. The word Kaarvan translates as process of moving together and is representative of women entrepreneurs and traders progressing together in a fair and equitable manner. Kaarvan’s mission is to be a fair-trade market leader by producing and retailing affordable and sophisticated hand crafted products in the local and export markets and thereby providing employment opportunities and marketing & advisory services to women and girls in low-income communities so that they can enhance their economic realities.
