Suneet Varma’s Bridal Collection 2014
Suneet’s endeavor of making the bride comfortable without missing out on the grandeur has worked wondrously through his intelligent overlay of craft on light fabrics. In an attempt to marry the set, clothes and the accessories, Suneet highlights ‘Shikhawati’ of Rajasthan, one of the oldest and most beautiful hand painted living cities in the world with a rich history of architecture. The Suneet Varma’s bridal clothes saw embroidery encrusted velvet kurtas, sarees and jackets reviving the 90’s velvet charm, delicately embroidered diaphanous sarees and re-imagined sweetheart neckline, mirror work embellishment with large borders in thread embroidery. The color pallet flaunted fuchsia and subtle pinks, deep reds, stark white and ivory with zari embroidery and dark navy and cobalt blue with antique and burnt gold and copper thread embellishments for an Indian bride. Showstopper Kangana’s ensemble turned her into an Indian Aphrodite, creating a new trend in ‘choli’, to look out for in the days to come. The outstanding handmade accessories in beaten metallic gold and opulent headgears derived inspiration from the miniature paintings and drawings of Rajasthan; carefully incorporating those elements in the garments. From every sartorial nook, Suneet’s team does justice to the art of couture.
Tarun Tahiliani opened his collection ‘Modern Mughals’for today’s Indian bride.
Topping the charts with a magical collection of haute bridal couture, the emperor of drapes, Tarun stunned many with his unconventional and edgy approach of showcasing Indian bridal clothes in black, and in a pastoral assortment of pinks, beiges, burnt orange and noir. Although extensive layering and long trains were inculcated, sheer silks, reshams and tullé made the ensemble lighter, giving ease of movement. The TT signature dhoti pants, patiala’s, amour choli’s and vest coats remarkably dazzled on its way down the trot. The traditional mangtika was modified into a Mohawk that added a dash of power to the whole look for today’s Indian bride. Designers Ashima and Leena Showcased their Indian Bridal Collection titled ‘Jashna’
AL’s bridal wear combines floral delicacy, reminiscing the fantasy of ‘Arabian Nights’ – calling in a regal revival of elegant Arabesques and mosaic aesthetic. ‘Jashn’ is a celebration of their six intoxicating collections – Persian Flowers, gulistan, gold souq, pieces of silver and isfahan and tabriz.
This majestic bridal clothes incorporated lehengas, floating ghararas with trails, a revival of the ‘odhni’ as the centerpiece of the ensemble, long kurtis with plunging necklines and sarees with embellished blouses. The aesthetic combination of hues and material such as beaten gold with vintage grey, antique silver, mirrored accents, soft dusky pinks with a sheer, peacock blue, turquoise and lapis with burnt orange symbolized the duo’s festive interpretations. Specially woven Persian motifs on rich silks, fine gold borders and flowing lame fabrics formed the mainstay of this collection. Ashima and Leena preferred to call their Indian bridal collection a masterful ode to a venerable tradition of craftsmanship by showcasing their newest offering this fall, called ‘ratn-patti’, in jewel tones of red, rust, royal blue and peacock, resplendently scattered in appliques and full odhnis .
Falguni & Shane Peacock
What does a modern Indian bride desire? For her wedding day, she expects the right mix of sexy, sophisticated and elegant; an alternative to the fairy tale gowns, and traditional lehengas. Designers Falguni & Shane Peacock’s bridal collection creates visual artistry through the duo’s trademark style – luxury intertwined with fantasy. The ensembles reflected their unconventional take on vintage elements for bridal styling. Sheer bodysuits and lehengas with bold prints define the bride who prefers luxury with an edge. Biker jackets and quirky prints are elements we usually don’t associated with Indian bridal wear, but Falguni & Shane use them to their advantage for creating outfits that are contemporary and bold. The colors ranged from off white, beige, pink, gold to deep maroons and their trademark black. The consistent tone on tone embroidery with detailing through crystal work mirrored the duo’s love for the vintage and the exotic.
Jyotsna Tiwari Bridal Collection
As pink rules the runway on the fourth and final day, we deem it as the most popular color of the season! Following the league Jyotsna took to pastels followed by a punch of pink. Her fascinating collection revolves around the most important day in a bride’s life. Understated bling for a timeless feel; soft pastels giving the Indian bride an unconventional look. A few embroidered and embellished bridal gowns in white including show stopper Esha Gupta’s outfit along with fully embroidered lehenga-choli and dupatta present a hassle free choice for the bride. Romantic hairdos took center stage with signature pre-draped sarees, voluminous fusion anarkalis, lehengas and gowns; velvets combined with satins that a girl would love to be dressed in. Most of Jyotsna’s line has a western appeal that works well for a morning as well as an evening wedding look.
