Indian Proposal Story: Jenny & Mitul
I have known Mitul since I was very young, maybe 10 years old. We grew up together, attending family barbecues, Diwali parties, and summer picnics. Mitul’s family moved away to Pittsburgh, and over the years we lost touch with one another. Mitul and I remained to have mutual friends throughout the years though, and with that came a reunion in Toronto. We began to talk here and there, and eventually began to date in May 2010.
Fast forward to July 2013. Mitul was planning a huge surprise 25th for me in Newport, RI – my favorite place to visit in the summer! I had NO IDEA about any of the plans or who was going to be there. My parents knew and my Dad cooked up a bunch of food for us to bring. My sisters were in on it, and forced me to buy a new dress and get a mani/pedi. I still had no clue at this point because everyone had the excuse of “it’s your birthday so just do it.”
It was a gorgeous day and I was so extremely happy. That afternoon, we walked back to the house to get some lunch and relax before getting ready for dinner that evening. I was sitting with Mitul’s brother on the porch when he told me my birthday present was a helicopter tour of Newport. I was beyond excited; I had never been on a helicopter! The boys told me that we would be going straight to the restaurant after the tour and so I had to do my hair, makeup, and wear my dress and heels. I thought they were nuts! I mean my hair would definitely be a mess after being on a helicopter, but I let it go and just went with it. As I was getting ready, there were guests that just kept coming and surprising me, it was great! I was finally ready and we had left the house to go on the tour. Apparently, everyone at the house thought I knew something was up at this point, but I honestly still had no clue!
We got on the helicopter and I could feel my heart beating in my chest; I was so, so excited! (I still had no clue what was going to happen at this point.) I was pointing out mansions and landmarks to the boys, when Mitul handed me a gift! I tore open the wrapping paper and saw that it was the book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and Mitul knows this about me too. So, I was thinking to myself… why would he get me a book he knows I already have?? Are there chocolates inside?? Tickets to Harry Potter World?? Well, the book had a ribbon marking a page inside, so I opened it. It was cut-out to the chapter entitled “The Unbreakable Vow” and attached the ribbon was a gorgeous diamond ring!!! I immediately started to cry as Mitul continued to say, “Jenny, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Will you marry me?” I said “YES!!!!” I was on cloud 9, speechless, and insanely happy! We went back to the house and all of our family and friends had decorated the place.
We entered and were greeted with a big SURPRISE!!!! It was the best day of my life so far and I was so incredibly lucky to have shared it with so many of our family andfriends. Now, we can’t wait to celebrate our wedding weekend in the Spring of 2015!
