Brides often start thinking of their picture perfect wedding day and have a vision of what they want it to be, but sometimes logistics can get in the way. For example- you’ve always wanted to get married at a rustic farmhouse but it only houses 150 people and you have a guest list of 450! Try to take a step back before you start looking for the dream location and figure out a realistic number of guests. It is far better to overestimate then to squeeze people into a room. Once you have a realistic number of guests, you can start the search for a dream location, but it can be a daunting task, so where do you start?
Make a list of things that are important to you in a venue before you start your adventure: charm, modern feel, unique venue. Most couples envision their guests leaving the wedding saying “that was sooo them!” Start looking online in the area you want to get married.
Find local magazines and papers- they often have a special wedding section or issue.
Talk to people that have gotten married in the area. If the town has a tourism bureau, check there.
Is there a favorite location for you and your groom? Do you both love Downtown Boston?
Are you both art lovers? Perhaps a museum? Are you both fond of Mother Nature and what she has to offer in New England? Perhaps and outdoor beach wedding? Are you both diehard Red Sox fans – Fenway?
What ever the venue, it should be a reflection of who you both are. Our Vendor Directory is a great place to start. Feel free to comment and let us know if there are more venues that you would like information about.
Once you’ve found a few places that meet your capacity requirements and catering needs, start to set up appointments! And don’t forget to bring a list of questions, pen and paper when you meet with potential venue managers. Stay tuned for questions you need to ask when picking a venue next time.
